Glasgow Equalities Partnership

 Recently the Board of Directors and the 4 Equality Networks (Black Network, West of Scotland LGBT Forum, Glasgow Disability Alliance & Women?s Network) met with Community Planning to review the work of GEP and how best to proceed with equality issues in Glasgow and its communities.

The review gave the Directors and Networks the opportunity to discuss the achievements of GEP, evaluate the impact of the service, identify any gaps and highlight any possible future developments.

As a result recommendations to restructure the service into one that focuses on a cross stranding approach to equality work whilst simultaneously building the capacity of the individual equality networks, ensuring improved engagement and input of specialist knowledge, would be preferred.

Community Planning and Glasgow Chief Executive Committee remain committed to equalities work and fully support this new structure.

This decision means that GEP in its current format will be wound down and until new structures are in place, Glasgow City Councils Equality Network Forum and the individual Equality Networks will continue to take on the job of ensuring people who experience discrimination and marginalisation are able to influence and be represented at policy and practice levels.
